i dream about trapeze artists flying through the air. they are floating from arms to arms, rescued from the mouths of hungry lions. they twirl and twist and are suspended in the air as though they are levitating, beyond the cirucs tent, into the sky, we seem them lifted up. two figures hand in hand they are so high up they should have wings to keep them up there. the big trapeze in the sky where there is no need for a net and you don't need to worry about anyone letting you fall.

lillian: what shall we do when we get there?

alfredo: what we have always done. it is all we know how to do.

lillian: i just wish to be grounded in meadows. i am so tired of flying.

alfredo: the little starling dreams of flying. and what of the beasts of the field?

lillian: and what of our dreams?

the lion tamer feeds the cubs. we see piglets and cubs playing. the pigs are restless.

there is an ambush a waiting for 2 kings whom are travelling down this road, the king who is crowned and the king who is crowned not

let us be stablemates on this journey of love and conquest, to which was overheard the reply "we can take the prairies and the highways, but leave them their damascus"

give in to the gentleman's request. riches thou shall have, and thine kingdom, thine oxen

a preacher, fed up with the small number of his congregation, decides to take matters into his own hands by leading a horse to water and drowning the noble steed

the drive out is further than the drive in, that's just golf

play it where it lies

arnold palmer: you hit it in the water. you just dropped a stroke.

ernest borgnine: i don't know any jokes.

arnold palmer: no, i mean your ball landed in the water.

ernest borgnine: right.

arnold palmer: so you dropped a stroke.

ernest borgnine: at least i didn't have one.

the horse becomes depressed after losing the big race. no manner of encouragement helps and the great horse, insufferably, kneels before its maker

rescue
here are 2 songs that i like very much. i was going to include more but i don't have enough space.

tujiko noriko - gift

when i first listened to tujiko noriko's new album 'solo' i didn't want to think about bjork. it's an all too obvious comparison and i wanted to avoid it as much as possible--until i got to this song and it just reminded me of why i love bjork in the first place. now that i have heard it seventeen thousand times i think tujiko noriko stands up on her own without the need to reference bjork anymore, so forget i even brought her up! just think about ice cream instead. and penguins.

sunroof! - cortez tha killa

this sunroof! song is off a triptych 2LP called 'crippled rosebud binding' which also features sublime noise-y shit by double leopards and mouthus. all three 'bands' come together on the final track which i like a lot but it's this song, 'cortez tha killa', which really gets me excited. is it a cover of neil young & crazy horse's monumental song? an interpretation? an ode? maybe all or none, but it doesn't really matter, because matthew bower is a genius and the guitar by mick flower of vibracathedral orchestra sounds fucking phenomenal. what a killer.

a newspaper is holding a competition to win either a sub-orbital spaceflight or the cash equivalent worth $147,647.

at first there was no question about it--if i won i was going to space--but after looking into sub-orbital flights i'm not so sure anymore (actually i didn't even know the prize was sub-orbital until i read the terms & conditions, but i guess that is just assumed because getting into orbit requires quite a lot more technological effort and $$$). from what i gather it's a 2.5 hour trip straight up and straight down with ~6 minutes of weightlessness, managing to get only slightly higher than 100km above sea level.

"A spaceflight is defined as travel through outer space, which is usually defined as anything higher than 100 km above sea level to coincide with the Karman line. 100 km was chosen because that is roughly the point where a vehicle would have to fly faster than orbital speed (which is a function of altitude) in order to derive sufficient aerodynamic lift from the atmosphere to support itself. So any vehicle that travels higher than 100 km yet slower than orbital speed is said to be in Sub-orbital spaceflight."

to me this is a bit of a let down. yes i would technically be in space, experiencing weightlessnes and seeing some pretty spectacular sights, but it just seems too short a time to truly experience life in space. i would much prefer to wait until orbital spaceflight is available so i could at least spend 24 hours in low earth orbit. on the other hand a cash prize is boring to me no matter how much more practical it is. let's have a closer look at the prize:

10. Prize details:

• 2 x return economy flights to the flight base location (location to be confirmed) from nearest Australian capital city
• Visa charges (if required) for Australian, NZ and UK passport holders only.
• Airport transfers and transfers to flight base by limousine (overseas only, not in Australia).
• 5 nights twin share 5 star accommodation for two people in one room in launch city (location to be confirmed)
• Sub-orbital flight for 1 person including pre-flight training
• Customised NOMEX flight suit
• Guided tour of mission base with astronaut or cosmonaut host
• 2 x breakfast, lunch and dinner for five days from arrival date at flight base to departure date (dates to be confirmed), but not before 1 January 2008 and not after 31 December 2001m [what date should this be?].
• 24 hour, local, on-call hosts to look after the prize winner’s requirements
• Video and photographs of the sub-orbital flight
• TOTAL PRIZE VALUE: AUD$147,647

it'd be cool to have one of those flight suits.

so which would you choose if you won---space or the money?
